Student Testimonials

I asked some of my students to share what the training at X-Factor has done for them or their children. Here is what some of them had to say:

Adult Student:

At 44 years old, with fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and a surgically fused lumbar spine, I am probably the last person you would think to start taking Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The reality is that this is exactly who Helio Gracie created his jiu-jitsu for and who the Gracie Combative curriculum is geared towards. Coach Shannon follows the original Gracie philosophy by emphasizing technique over strength. Physically, since starting to learn BJJ at X-Factor I have lost 60lbs, become stronger, more flexible and in better condition than at any other time in my life. In fact, studying BJJ has helped to prevent  injuries and other issues associated with sitting in front of a computer all day at work. Mentally, I have gained the self-confidence to be able to protect myself and my family should the need ever arise. And the curriculum allows you to set and achieve goals.

X-Factor truly is a family owned, family operated and family oriented school. The coaches and students there have really become my friends. The school has attracted students willing to check their egos at the door, regardless of their goals and MMA ambitions. The students that I have encountered at all age and experience levels are there to learn and help each other. In the adult classes in particular, I have picked up some wrestling, judo and muay thai skills from both coaches and students willing to share their experiences. And whether you are in the beginner or advanced classes, you can set your own pace. When I am feeling good, I can push myself against more experienced students or work technique with newer students if I’m ‘feeling my age’. In either case, the emphasis is always on safety and learning the application of the techniques.

I believe in Coach Shannon and X-Factor enough to trust them with my family. Really, what better endorsement can I give.

Parent of Student:

Coach Shannon and X-Factor has been a huge part of our lives since 2007. My son Schon admires and respects Shannon who has been his tee-ball, baseball, and Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu coach. I have seen my son become stronger and learn techiniques that can benefit him one day, plus he has gained self confidence.  When I asked Schon about Coach Shannon he replied, he is my coach and I like him, he helps me learn chokes and arm bars. ;) Coach Shannon is an excellent male role model for Schon and my youngest son Solomon.

Student and Parent of Student:

“The team at X-Factor is a true blessing to the Sachse/Wylie community.  Having trained in the adult class and having a child in the older kids group, I having nothing but the highest of praise for Shannon and what they do at X-Factor.  My 11-yr old son is not much for team sports, but has truly found his home at X-Factor and loves the time he gets to spend with the instructors and other students.

Shannon and his team are committed to truly teaching jiu-jitsu and not just going through the motions. Each and every student, from the 5-yr olds to the adults, is important to the staff and instructors at X-Factor.  The positive atmosphere and the respect shown to all who enter it’s doors is what sets X-Factor apart.  Thank you to Shannon, Steve, Terra and the whole X-Factor family.”

Parent of Student:

My son really enjoys the kids class as well and has helped him learn a lot of self-control with his body.  It’s also a great outlet for physical contact and socialization and has never had any issues with aggression at school.
